GPS PLUS collars are built on a modular concept that allows choosing a configuration which is best suited for the study. Users can choose between several communication and sensor options, seven different battery sizes, and suitable belt shape, width, and thickness. The belt is made of durable, UV- and water-resistant polyurethane. Due to its round edges it causes no or only a little irritation on the animal's neck. All antennas are integrated into the belt or the electronic housing. This prevents antennas from breaking or injuring the animal. Vectronic collars are designed to operate at the wide range of temperatures from - 40°C to + 70 °C. They are waterproof and can withstand even total immersion for several hours. To simplify the recovery of the collar, Vectronic offers additional drop-off mechanisms with radio and timer control, which are integrated into the battery pack to keep the collar more compact without unnecessary weak points. Battery packs and drop-offs can be exchanged in the field, so the collar can be easily re-deployed. Users are also welcome to send us the collar for a check-up, battery change, and refurbishment. If needed, Vectronic can change a roe deer collar into a wild boar collar - or even into a lion collar!

Vectronic offers two collar types, the cost sensitive GPS PRO Light and the highly flexible GPS PLUS. Both collars feature state-of-the-art GPS receivers and energy efficient electronics.


The GPS PRO Light is a cost sensitive GPS-GSM collar without any compromises in quality, but rigorously designed to reduce the price for projects focusing on GPS analysis. It uses the same high sensitive GPS technology as all Vectronic collars and is configured with the powerful GPS PLUS software.
GPS PRO Light is equipped with GSM communication to download data and upload schedules and configurations via SMS. GPS positions are stored in the collar's non-volatile memory and automatically downloaded to a GSM ground station at users' office or at Vectronic. In case of low GSM coverage, data are resent when the collar is back in coverage area. Also, all data can be downloaded from the retrieved collar via cable. In addition to GSM, the VHF remote data communication option is available.

GPS Plus

The GPS PLUS collar is the most flexible of the Vectronic GPS collars, offering a wide choice of sensor and communication options (VHF/UHF radio communication, GSM, Iridium and Globalstar). The radio communication system (VHF or UHF) enables users to download data in the field at any time and to re-programme the collar while it is still on the animal. GSM offers two-way communication to and from your office. For remote areas, there is the option of Iridium two-way or Globalstar one-way satellite communication. Combinations of GSM, Iridium, or Globalstar with VHF or UHF communications are available.
All GPS PLUS collars have the Virtual Fence (Geo Fencing) option. Collars equipped with UHF communication can also be used as part of the Proximity Sensor system (Interaction Monitoring). For more details see below.


All collars can be equipped with activity, mortality and temperature sensors without adding weight or energy consumption.
Activity sensor plus Activity Pattern software: all Vectronic collars can be equipped with a three-axes acceleration sensor without adding weight or energy consumption. Activity can be stored in user-defined intervals in different modes. Fast access to the activity data is provided by the free PC based Activity Pattern software. Developed in close cooperation with researchers, this program uses methods currently used in the field of telemetry aided behavioural biology. It allows users to study basic activity patterns, but also to zoom into activity rhythms.
Virtual Fence (Geo Fencing): GPS PLUS collars offer interactive GPS positioning. GPS schedules can change automatically if an animal is in a certain area ("Virtual Fence"), and/or users can be informed via GSM or Iridium whenever the animal enters or leaves this area. This way users can focus on areas of interest and save energy in between.


Vectronic GPS PLUS collars provide information on GPS positions and activity of your study animals. Now GPS PLUS collars offer a new possibility for studying wildlife remotely: the GPS PLUS collar is able to monitor external sensors and send messages remotely about their status. Vectronic has developed sensors which use UHF technology to provide new data on birth, mortality, body temperature and interactions between different animals. Users can download the sensor data remotely with a UHF handheld terminal, receive sensor status messages via Iridium or GSM and even get a real time alert if your study animal gives birth or dies.
